Bio
Writer/Director Omar S. Kamara is a Virginia native, a first-generation Sierra Leonean American, and a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the American Film Institute. His short film, MASS AVE, was selected by CAA for its Student Film Festival, Moebius, and is one of five finalists in the running for the grand prize at HBO’s Short Film Competition at ABFF. The film has played at numerous Oscar-Qualifying festivals, including Rhode Island, HollyShorts, and Indy Shorts, in addition to winning the Silver Screen Cannes Lions Young Director Award.
The feature screenplay of MASS AVE was selected as a Winner of the Austin Film Festival Virtual Pitch Competition and a Top 10 Finalist in the ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship. Kamara aspires to make films that mentally challenge his audiences, explore the complexities of human relationships, and tell stories that highlight and honor the African Diaspora.
